By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Owen R. Marriott (ASN: 1193712), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Headquarters Company, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 15 July 1918, near Courboin, France, Corporal Marriott who was in the Regimental Telephone Detail, was wounded in the knee. After it was learned that communications could not be reestablished, Corporal Marriott in spite of his wound nobly volunteered for messenger service and successfully carried messages until relieved.
