The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Gottleib Luzow (ASN: 45959), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Exermont, France, 10 October 1918. His platoon being held up by enemy machine-gun fire, Private Luzow, with one other soldier, advanced upon the machine gun with its crew. Their heroic action enabled his platoon to continue the advance with small loss.
