The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Patton L. Logan, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 5th Infantry Regiment, 7th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Mon Plaisir Ferme, France, 10 November 1918. During the attack Captain Logan, at the head of an assaulting platoon, advanced under heavy machine-gun and artillery fire. He was seriously wounded and later lost his leg as a result of the wound, but refused evacuation and continued to direct the attack until darkness prevented further operations.
