The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Ragnar Liljeberg (ASN: 2087137), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Chipilly Ridge, France, August 9 – 11, 1918. Being on duty as a runner, Private Liljeberg carried messages under heavy shell and machine-gun fire. Owing to casualties, he did the work of six runners, proving himself to be a man of unusual gallantry and devotion to duty.
