The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Howard Charles Lehy (ASN: 1746071), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois-de-Grand Fontaine, France, 26 September 1918. After his patrol had disposed of two sniper posts with rifle grenades, Sergeant Lehy held his group in position and covered the withdrawal of his platoon from heavy enfilading machine-gun fire of the enemy.
