The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Harry K. Kunzie (Kunze), (ASN: 280706), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 126th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Cierges, France, 1 August 1918. Corporal Kunzie crawled out in advance of his company and, single-handed, killed the six Germans forming the crew of a machine-gun. He then continued forward to silence another gun, being mortally wounded in the attempt.
