King (ASN: 143131), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant King distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 149th Field Artillery, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Johnchery-sur-Suippes, France, 15 July 1918, in repairing telephone lines under heavy shell fire.

King (ASN: 143131), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 149th Field Artillery, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bulson, France, November 8 – 9, 1918. Placed in charge of a telephone detail, Sergeant King refused to be evacuated when wounded by a splinter from a shell, which killed five of his men and wounded twelve others. He remained on duty until the regiment left the line, inspiring his men by his example of fortitude.
