The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant Colonel (Judge Advocate General’s Corps) James Leslie Kincaid, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while attached to the 106th Infantry, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 27 September 1918. Because of a shortage of officers and after additional officers had been requested, Colonel Kincaid volunteered to command one of the battalions of the 106th Infantry. He commanded the battalion throughout the engagement of 27 September 1918, with great courage and forcefulness and without regard to his personal safety, thereby setting a splendid example to all ranks.

Major (Judge Advocate Corps) Kincaid distinguished himself by gallantry in action while attached to the 106th Infantry, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Ronssoy, France, 25 – 28 September 1918, in voluntarily taking command of a battalion and brilliantly leading it forward.
