The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Charles M. Kidd (ASN: 1786710), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 316th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Verdun, France, 10 November 1918. While his company was being held up by machine-gun fire. Corporal Kidd led his squad, in spite of a severe leg wound, against the machine-gun, killing the gunner, and clearing the way for the advance of his company.
