War Department, General Orders No. 32 (1919)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Frank Henry Kenny, Jr. (ASN: 1211265), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. When his commanding officer fell wounded, Private Kenny made his way through intense machine-gun fire to his first sergeant and notified him that he should assume command of the company. He then continued with the company until the advance was checked and the first sergeant severely wounded, when he made his way in search of the next in command. Failing to find him, he organized a squad of slightly wounded men, and with an automatic rifle and ammunition, which he salvaged, mopped up a section of the enemy trench, and then rejoined his company in its continued advance.
