The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Ivan Eustace Kay (ASN: 3128362), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 363d Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Waereghem, Belgium, 31 October 1918. When the progress of two front-line companies had been held up by intense machine-gun fire and the enemy had begun to close in on our forces Private Kay, although in an exposed position, checked the advance of the enemy with rifle grenades until he was killed. His act made possible the renewal of the advance by the two companies.
