The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Edward J. Jordan (ASN: 1245876), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 111th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fismette, France, 12 August 1918. Having learned from a raid of the previous night that a comrade was lying wounded in front of his lines, Corporal Jordan set out to rescue him after seeing two other men killed in the attempt. Crawling in full view of the enemy, he was shot through the leg when a storm of fire was directed at him, but he struggled on and brought his man to safety.
