The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Carl O. Jones (ASN: 1311053), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montbrehain, France, 8 October 1918. Crawling to the flanks of a German machine-gun nest, Private Jones covered the crew with his rifle from a distance of 30 yards and captured 12 of the enemy. This gallant soldier was subsequently killed in action.
