The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Thomas Jolley (ASN: 3019), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 101st Field Artillery (Attached), 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Chemin-des-Dames, France, 6 March 1918. While the area in which he was located was being heavily shelled by the enemy, Private First Class Jolley showed extraordinary valor by leaving his dugout, passing through 300 meters of heavy shell fire, and rendering aid to a wounded man at great risk of his own life.
