The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Hanning Gustav Nathaniel Johnson (ASN: 145412), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery B, 151st Field Artillery, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Suippes, France, 15 July 1918. Sergeant Johnson remained in command of his gun section throughout the entire day, after having been severely wounded.
