    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Infantry) Frank Johnstone Jervey, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. Captain Jervey was serving with the 4th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and while his company was in an open field near les Franquettes Farm on 23 July 1918, it was suddenly subjected to very heavy machine gun fire. Although wounded at least five times he continued to command his company until he became unconscious. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Frank Johnstone Jervey, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 4th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Les Franquettes Farm, France, 23 July 1918. Although wounded five times when his company was suddenly fired upon by machine-guns while crossing an open field, Captain Jervey remained in command of his company until he became unconscious.
