The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Raymond Boyd Jauss, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918. After all means of liaison had failed, Lieutenant Jauss carried important messages to his observation posts. He was killed by shell fire while visiting one of his observation stations near Crezancy.
