The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Thomas Innes (ASN: 1237324), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Agnan, France, 16 July 1918. Wounded during an attack, Private Innes returned to the line after having his wound dressed, and, though incapacitated for using a rifle, assisted in carrying wounded soldiers from the field, subjected the while to intense machine-gun and artillery fire, until he was exhausted and ordered to the rear.
