The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Albert Leverne John Ihrke (ASN: 2023072), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 47th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Sergy, France, 1 August 1918. Private Ihrke displayed great courage and devotion to duty by remaining in an exposed position under heavy machine-gun and shell fire to cover the withdrawal of his company.
