The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Jones Wilson Hunter (ASN: 75160), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Vaux, France, 3 July 1918. Private First Class Hunter showed himself to be conspicuously brave, although wounded by a shell and unable to carry ammunition, for which duty he had been detailed, he went over the top with his squad and fought heroically with it until killed.
