The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant First Class Harold A. Hudson (ASN: 1330180), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 105th Field Signal Battalion, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 29 September 1918. Sergeant Hudson and a number of other members of a signal detachment were wounded by shell fire while proceeding through an enemy counter-barrage to the front line, but disregarding his own injuries this soldier administered first aid to his wounded comrades and then extended a telephone line to the advance message center, and, with five men, maintained and operated the message center.
