The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Henry Hoy (ASN: 1390393), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 132d Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Forges, France, 26 September 1918. Private Hoy saw a hand grenade dropped near an officer of his company, which endangered not only the officer’s life, but also many members of the company who were in the vicinity. Rushing to the spot, he picked up the bomb and hurled it in the direction of the enemy. It exploded in the air and the lives of his comrades were thus saved by his act.
