The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Jonathan A. Householder (ASN: 643042), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Section No. 590, Ambulance Service, American Expeditionary Forces, near Dun-sur-Meuse, France, 7 November 1918. Proceeding along a road with a detachment of seven ambulances, Private First Class Householder stopped his car when fired upon by a German sniper near the roadside; and, though unarmed himself, attacked and disarmed the German. Then, with the aid of other ambulance drivers, he attacked a patrol of Germans, capturing five.
