The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Leonard Cunningham Hoskins, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 52d Field Artillery Regiment, Coast Artillery Corps near La Chappelle, France, 28 June 1918. Second Lieutenant Hoskins gave proof of great devotion and bravery when he entered a shell-swept area in search for wounded, and was killed while conducting several of his men to safety.
