The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Adolph Holtz (ASN: 60415), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Trugny Woods, near Chateau-Thierry, France, 23 July 1918. Private Holtz, with two other men in an advanced position ahead of the battalion, charged a machine-gun, killed four of the enemy, and drove off the rest, thereby making possible the advance of their comrades.
