The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Crossley Montrose Holroyd (ASN: 1235327), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 16 July 1918, near St. Agnan, France, Private Holroyd voluntarily left the shelter of the trench and went into machine-gun and artillery fire three times to rescue wounded comrades 100 yards away.
