The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Sergeant Myron Isaac Hoffman (ASN: 2285156), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 363d Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Paarden Kanter, Belgium, 31 October 1918. Sergeant Hoffman was mortally wounded by shell fire while he was returning to report to his company commander the position of the dressing station, which he had located in order that the wounded might be evacuated under cover of darkness. While being carried to the rear in great pain he directed his litter bearers to go by way of the battalion post of command in order that he might deliver his reports.
