The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Harry Hillig (ASN: 1995326), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 29 September 1918. Although he had been seriously wounded in the neck by a machine-gun bullet, Private Hillig refused to go to the rear, and continued in the advance until he was killed several hours later.
