The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Hans Henriksen (ASN: 107336), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 5th Machine-Gun Battalion, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Letanne, France, 6 November 1918. Private Henriksen went out from a place of safety through a heavy shell fire and helped to carry a wounded comrade to safety. Without orders, he made a second trip for a distance of 500 yards through machine-gun and artillery fire to bring in the tripod of his gun squad.
