The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Charles R. Henderson (ASN: 1211852), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Dickebusch, France, 22 August 1918. When his post was attacked by a greatly superior number of the enemy, he heroically defended it in spite of the loss of six of his squad and succeeded in driving off the enemy.
