Heffron (ASN: 550019), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crezancy, France, July 15 – 18, 1918. Private Chiffon repeatedly carried messages to the front-line platoons over routes exposed to heavy machine gun and artillery fire. Due to his individual efforts communication was maintained during a critical period.
