The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Albert U. Hassig, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, between Fey-en-Haye and Vilcey, France, 12 September 1918. Although he was severely wounded, Lieutenant Hassig refused to go to a first-aid station, but continued to give great assistance in silencing enemy machine-gun nests.
