The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Frederick Hahn, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 7th Field Artillery, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Cantigny, France, May 28 – 30, 1918. Second Lieutenant Hahn unhesitatingly went into heavy shell fire to supervise the repair of telephone lines and to act as runner when the further maintenance of the wires became an impossibility.
