The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Otho M. Hagerman (ASN: 2178271), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 354th Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Barricourt, France, 1 November 1918. Seeing his platoon held up by murderous machine-gun fire, Private Hagerman advanced over an open area, in the face of fierce machine-gun fire, to a point within 150 yards of the enemy, from where he destroyed the machine-gun nest with rifle grenades.
