The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George K. Hagemeyer (ASN: 1212127), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bony, France, 29 September 1918. During a period that his company was held up by hazardous enemy fire, Private Hagemeyer acted as stretcher bearer and, even though wounded, and ordered to the rear, he continued in the work of removing the wounded. He remained at his task throughout the violent fire until he was wounded five times and forced to retire from loss of blood.
