The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class August Hageman (ASN: 2176759), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918. Private Hageman carried frequent messages through barrage fire, and later brought in wounded and carried ammunition to the front line. On 26 July near Jaulgonne, this man also carried messages through the most violent shellfire.
