The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Guy M. Habecker (ASN: 1786483), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 316th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Verdun, France, November 4 – 6, 1918. While performing the duties of supply sergeant, Corporal Habecker succeeded in getting food to his company which was holding the outpost line. He led carrying parties through heavy shell fire, bringing hot coffee and bread to the men. On one occasion he made the journey unaided, taking with him a large quantity of bread.
