The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Sergeant Harold Greene (ASN: 1211192), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. When his commanding officer was severely wounded and evacuated, First Sergeant Greene took command of the company and led it into effective combat. He continued to lead the company forward through a terrific fire of artillery and machine-guns for more than a mile after being severely wounded, and refused to be evacuated until he had received a second wound which made it impossible for him to continue further.
