The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Willie Green (ASN: 2249500), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vilcey, France, 13 September 1918, While officers were holding a conference in a dugout on our outpost line, a German patrol came across a small footbridge directly to the entrance of the dugout and threw a grenade inside. Corporal Green, without any thought of personal danger, in order to save his officers from injury, stood on the grenade and then shot two of the retreating patrol.
