The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Ernest B. Green (ASN: 1310736), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 25 September 1918. Although stunned and bruised by a shell which burst in his trench, he went to the aid of a comrade outside of the trench and brought him to safety. This was in full view of the enemy and under heavy shelling.
