The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Edward L. Graham, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, September 29 – 30, 1918. Although twice wounded while leading his men, Captain Graham refused to be evacuated, inspiring his command by his personal courage and fortitude. Ordered to the rear by a superior officer, he returned to his men as soon as his wounds were dressed.
