The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Carlyle Ambrode Gorman (ASN: 1287244), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Bois Brabant-sur-Meuse, France, 8 October 1918. Sergeant German, with four other soldiers, fearlessly attacked eight machine gun positions and succeeded, after stubborn resistance, in capturing both the guns and the crews.
