The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Frank J. Goldcamp (ASN: 158151), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 6th Engineers, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois-des-Tailloux, France, 28 March 1918. Killed in action while fighting gallantly, Private Goldcamp attempted to rescue his patrol leader, Sergeant Swingle, who was lying wounded within sight of his lines. While engaged in this work he came under hostile machine-gun fire and was killed.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Frank J. Goldcamp (ASN: 158151), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company B, 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, northwest of Bois de Vaire, near Hamel, Somme, France, on 8 March 1918, Private Goldcamp, accompanied by one man, did, with most distinguished bravery, proceed under heavy enemy rifle fire and machine gun fire to the place where a sergeant of his company had fallen wounded. He attempted to remove him to a less exposed place, and was killed by enemy fire. Private Goldcamp’s action was above and beyond the call of duty.
