Goldcamp (ASN: 158151), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company B, 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, northwest of Bois de Vaire, near Hamel, Somme, France, on 8 March 1918, Private Goldcamp, accompanied by one man, did, with most distinguished bravery, proceed under heavy enemy rifle fire and machine gun fire to the place where a sergeant of his company had fallen wounded. He attempted to remove him to a less exposed place, and was killed by enemy fire. Private Goldcamp’s action was above and beyond the call of duty. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]
