The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Frederick Gluck (ASN: 90185), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Sommerance, France, 16 October 1918. Private Gluck volunteered to leave his battalion, which was in support, and help carry wounded men from the field of action. He was killed while in the performance of this mission, after having assisted in bringing in at least a dozen of his wounded comrades.
