The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Fred Leonard Glassbrenner (ASN: 1995552), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 29 September 1918. Private Glassbrenner was advancing with the one-pounder gun section when he was wounded in the leg by a machine-gun bullet and was urged to go to the rear. He, nevertheless, continued to advance and was later killed upon leaving a sheltered position to go to the assistance of another wounded soldier.
