The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Henry B. Glass (ASN: 1289551), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, north of Verdun, France, October 8 – 15, 1918. Corporal Glass repeatedly volunteered to carry messages through violent artillery and machine-gun fire, after other runners failed to get through. After being gassed and ordered to the rear, this soldier continued on duty until he collapsed.
