The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal George Gallagher (ASN: 548025), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crezancy, France, 15 July; and near Jaulgonne, France, 23 July 1918. On the night of 15 July during the intense shelling which preceded the German offensive, Corporal Gallagher made three trips through the fire and, collecting lost troops, conducted them to their place in the line. On 23 July he led a patrol through perilous fire, and established communication with troops on the right of his position.
