The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Paul C. Fuhrman (ASN: 554884), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 9th Machine-Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Romagne, France, 12 October 1918. Corporal Fuhrman, without regard to personal safety, operated and advanced his machine gun under intense enemy artillery and machine-gun fire. By this act he disabled and put out of action two enemy machine-gun crews which were holding up the advance of the infantry.
