The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Edgar Hubbard Freeman (ASN: 96367), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 167th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ancerviller, France, 4 March 1918. Corporal Freeman conducted himself with marked bravery as a member of a patrol of five men which encountered an enemy patrol of eleven men, which it attacked and routed, taking two prisoners.
